Hoi An might be a small town that doesn’t take many days to explore but there are 5 things that you must do before you pin down this place on you map:
1. Visit the ancient town
This little port town is a well-preserved world heritage with temples, pagodas, bridges and walls. Travelers from all over the world are attracted to its harmony and popularity. I suggest to visit the town around 5pm before sunset to see the ancient architecture and stay after sunset to see the lovely town lit up by lanterns and the night market.
2. Get a tailor to make your own clothes
Hoi An is full of skillful tailors and there are more than 400 tailor shops in town. They can make everything, sundresses, ball gowns, suits, bikinis, shoes, whatever you name it. And they can give you the product overnight! How efficient! Anyway, go to the tailor at least 3 days before you leave town so that there is enough time for mending.
Try not to find the tailor in the ancient town as they will charge you more than they should, instead, you can find those out of the touristic area and main streets. Tailors in Hoi An are everywhere that you don’t need to worry about not finding one. I had my two perfect dresses(one is ball gown and one is cocktail dress) made near the hotel I stayed and they only cost me USD35 each! It will cost USD45 if I go to a tailor shop in the ancient town.
3. Go to Cua Dai beach
Cua Dai beach has clean white sand and blue water which charms you in a second when you get there. The water is calm and not deep which is perfect for swimming. I spent most of my time in Hoi An sunbathing and swimming at this beach. Besides, there are restaurants all the way by the beach which I’m going to write about in the following.
4. Eat seafood
You should not miss the seafood when you come visit Hoi An, especially when you are at the beach. The seafood is so fresh and tastes so delicious. I have tried the best clam ever in the world at Van Phi restaurant with the postcard view of white sand, deep blue sea and clear sky at Cua Dai beach. I ate this clam two days straight. Not kidding.
5. Enjoy the Happy Hour
Basically, every restaurants, cafes and bar has happy hour every day. Every day. Even in your hotels. The happy hour goes from 12 noon to 5pm or 6pm and some places has even longer hours. The buy-one-get-one deal is something you should not miss when the price is cheap already.
